We’ve reached an impasse in finding a social network for the Original Ones. Locals.com recently announced that free communities would become paid, and last Sunday this went into effect. I appreciate that web platforms need to generate revenue somehow (when a social network, such as FaceBook is “free”, it just means that you are the product), but it would’ve been nice if this had been clearly established upfront.
I get that a number of us are happy to financially support a more sanctified space, but the voluntary migration away from FB was already partial, which many sort of defaulting back to it anyway, and this paywall will further impact that negatively.
I don’t really have any suggestions for how to proceed from here. I don’t plan to actively continue on FB, and likewise I hesitate to reinvent the wheel on yet another platform.
